The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2001. Title I, which is a part of NCLB; provides Federal funding to help schools and districts improve academic performance of disadvantaged students. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has 11 schools that qualify for these services: Byrns Darden Elementary School, Cumberland Heights Elementary, Kenwood Elementary School, Kenwood Middle School, Liberty Elementary School, Minglewood Elementary School, Moore Magnet Elementary School, New Providence Middle School, Norman Smith Elementary School, Ringgold Elementary School, and St. Bethlehem Elementary. Target-assisted schools in CMCSS are Barkers Mill Elementary, Barksdale Elementary, and Burt Elementary Schools.
These schools receive extra funds to support their school programs and to insure that all students reach their highest potential. The primary use of these extra funds has been to increase the number of teachers and educational assistants available at the school site. These persons provide one-on-one and small group instruction for at-risk students.
All title I teachers and paraprofessionals are highly qualified. Parents may request information about the qualifications of teachers and paraprofessionals who instruct their child.
The Learning Center (343 Pageant Lane ) and The Learning Center North (800 Lafayette Road @ Northwest High School) serve as a resource for parents by providing materials, workshops and consultations.
